I love first birthday parties! I love going to them, I love photographing them, and most important I love hosting them! The first birthday is so special because, well it’s the first birthday party they’ll ever have.. but also it’s a celebration of them budding into a little person who walks and talks and has a personality (no offence newborns but you’re kinda boring…)
I really embraced the floral theme for my sweet Autumn. Her nursery is rich in florals, and something about a spring baby (yes her name is Autumn) that screams florals to me. I also really like pink. So voila a pink floral party it is!
I made her this banner with some scraps from my fabric bin the night before, it’s a super easy DIY and I have one for Harrison too, in his room. Next rainy day I challenge you to make one for your littles.
Photos of my husband and our babes always melt my heart. He adore his babies so incredibly much it’s not hard to get a loving shot of the two of them.

I wanted to have an activity that was fun and creative for all the kiddos that were coming. Our house has massive trees with awesome birdhouses in them, I love birdhouses so much. I decided to get a bunch of plain wooded birdhouses (from Dollarama who knew that place had so many awesome things!), one for each kid to decorate. I first was going to have them paint them, but after realizing how many toddlers were coming I decided washable markers, rinestones, and stickers were a safer choice… It was a total hit, the kids loved them!
These amazing cookies were made by Milk and Cookies bakeshop here in Edmonton. A friend recommended her to me and I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out, they were truly a work of art.

Everyone was super content just chatting, decorating birdhouses, and eating treats. Is there any better way to spend a Saturday afternoon?
Now for my favourite part. The CAKE! each year my sister or I make my kiddos cakes (Harrison’s 2 ft monkey cake from his first birthday party required us both…) but this year my sister rocked it solo. She did an unbelievable job. I picked up the toppers from some of our local markets (felt balls are Clever Arrow) and Etsy (“One” sign is Paper and Parties)
Etsy really is the perfect spot for party decorations and I love supporting other small businesses! This adorable sign was from Hoot Invitations and turned out so cute and what a great keepsake to file away!
I have been waiting for a good mommy and me moment with Autumn since I found out we were having a girl! And I finally got it!! My dress is from a local maker Maple and Leigh and I’m now addicted to their dresses. Autumn’s sweet crown is from Fancy Free Finery, and her dress, Old Navy!
It was a truly awesome day, I was so honoured so many of her friends and neighbours dropped by to give her birthday wishes. She is so loved by so many in this little village we’ve created, and I couldn’t be happier. Thanks for sharing in the joy with me by checking out her party here! Emily xoxo
